"Beer is Art" L.A. Beerweek project
Set of four drink coasters arrived mid July.
The nice thing about this ply is you can use scissors for some of the cuts. Each coaster requires 3 four inch diameter disks.Time to start cutting...
It's time to prime all the wood to get a smooth surface.
Everything gets coated 5 or 6 times with primer and sanded between coats.
Final color applied.
Stand-offs are made with small diameter dowel and color matched to background for holding the disks apart. This adds depth as well as lets some light in through the sides.
Each set is stacked, marked and drilled.
A small screw goes through the back (which is counter sunk) and into the dowels.
Everything stacked, spaced and casting a nice shadow.
Time to start plotting the lettering-size, style, length and arc.
Lettering cut out of the 3/64ths ply ready for primer. Meanwhile some details have been added to the primary elements.
Each word uses 2 colors to create a fade for visual interest.
Another color is painted around each letter for legibility.
Getting ready for the final assembly.
Three small dowels are triangulated to hold up each word and color matched to the background.
And here's the four coasters as a set.
BANG
BOOM
POW!
